津和野城址は、島根県津和野町にある山城跡です。標高362メートルの霊亀山に築かれ、国の史跡に指定されています。
The ruins of Tsuwano Castle are the remains of a mountain castle located in Tsuwano Town, Shimane Prefecture. It was built on Mt. Reiki, 362 meters above sea level, and is designated as a national historic site.
津和野城は、1324年に吉見氏によって築城されました。その後、坂崎氏、亀井氏などによって改修が加えられ、江戸時代には石見地方を代表する山城となりました。しかし、明治7年に廃城となり、現在は石垣、堀、土塁などの遺構のみが残っています。
Tsuwano Castle was built by the Yoshimi clan in 1324. Later, the castle was renovated by the Sakazaki and Kamei clans, and during the Edo period, it became a representative mountain castle in the Iwami region. However, the castle was abandoned in 1874, and today only stonewalls, moats, earthen mounds, and other remains remain.
津和野城跡は「天空の城」としても知られ、雲海が出る季節は息を飲む美しさを誇ります。但馬の竹田城、備中松山城、豊後の岡城などと並び、残された壮大な石垣群が、雲の海の上に浮かぶ様は圧巻で、日本100名城にも選ばれています。
Tsuwano Castle Ruins, also known as "Castle in the Sky," is breathtakingly beautiful during the season of sea of clouds. Along with Takeda Castle, Bicchu Matsuyama Castle, and Oka Castle, the spectacular stonewalls that remain are a sight to behold as they float above the sea of clouds, and it has been selected as one of the 100 best castles in Japan.
現在、山頂までは日中の営業時間内であれば、観光リフトで麓から容易にアクセスすることができます。稜線に沿って三角形に高石垣を巡らせる本丸の中でも「天守台跡」のさらに上に設けられた広大な「三十間台」からの眺めは格別で、南方に迫り出した「人質櫓跡」の高石垣と合わせて、見る者を圧倒します。
Currently, the summit is easily accessible from the foot of the mountain by a sightseeing lift during daytime operating hours. The view from the vast "Sanjukken-dai," which is located further above the "castle tower ruins," is exceptional, and together with the high stone walls of the "hostage tower ruins" looming to the south, the view is overwhelming.
今回、キャッシュを「三の丸」のさらに先にある「南門跡」付近に仕掛けてみました。石垣に腰かけて、「山陰の小京都」と呼ばれる津和野の街並みを眼下に見降ろしながら、しばし悠久の時に身を委ねてみてはいかがでしょうか？タイミングが合えば、田園風景の中を走り抜けていく「SLやまぐち号」を遠望することも可能です。
