Varða/Vörður(Cairns) are man-made stone mounds that are there to lead the way and help travelers know where they are going. They where used to mark the trail to go between rural areas/regions and most often then not when theese trail whent through mountains or heaths. They can be found all over Iceland but here is proberly the longest continues trail of Cairns still standing. They are all over a hundred years old and some even older so be respectful of them.
