The Great Western Trail right-of-way is on the old Great Western railroad grade. The trail runs from Windsor to Eaton. The rail line was built in 1905 by the Great Western Railway of Colorado as a feeder route for local sugar beet farmers to nearby national rail lines. The rails were torn up long ago but here there is an actual milepost (kindof knocked over now) indicating 32 miles from Longmont. The rail line still exists and is in use south of Windsor.
I recommend a bicycle to get to this cache - it is a bike trail after all! Parking is best to the southwest on Cherryridge Drive (see the parking waypoint). It's about a 1/3 mile walk to the cache from there. The road to the north doesn't really have a good spot to park - your mileage may vary.
Please don't use the farmer's road to get to the cache!
