Alzey trägt den Zusatz „Volkerstadt“. Natürlich ist das ein Verweis auf Volker von Alzey, der im Nibelungenlied Erwähnung findet (und in sehr optimistischen Kreisen auch als Autor ins Spiel gebracht wird). Den Beginn des Nibelungenlieds habe ich oben zitiert.
Wirklich nachvollziehbar ist die Entstehung des Epos nicht. Aber die Bedeutung ist unumstritten. Goethe dazu: „Die Kenntnis dieses Gedichts gehört zu einer Bildungsstufe der Nation.“
Dieses Epos spielt sich u.a. sehr nahe an Alzey ab. Im benachbarten Worms gibt es nicht umsonst die berühmten und immer hochkarätig besetzen Nibelungenfestspiele. Wer sich nicht die Mühe machen möchte, das komplette Nibelungenlied zu lesen (was ich durchaus nachvollziehen kann und für die Lösung des Caches natürlich nicht nötig ist 😉), dem empfehle ich das Hörbuch „Nibelungenlied“ von Peter Wapnewski. Hier wird Karl Simrocks Übersetzung im melodischen Vers des Mittelhochdeutschen angewendet und mit Passagen des Originaltextes sehr gut erklärt und gelesen. Manchmal ein wenig selbstgefällig; aber auf jeden Fall fundiert, unterhaltsam und gut verständlich. Das ist ohne Probleme als kostenfreie Hörprobe auf den bekannten Mainstream-Hörbuch-Plattformen zu finden, wo direkt zum Einstieg die oben zitierten Zeilen zu hören sind; und das klingt viel besser als das, was in eurem Kopf vorging, als ihr versucht habt, die Zeilen zu lesen 😉. Ich habe die Anschaffung danach nicht bereut.
Jetzt aber zum Cache. Er besteht aus einigen Stationen, die einen namentlichen Bezug zum Nibelungenlied haben. Vor Ort sind keine Gegenstände versteckt (bis auf das Final) und es müssen auch keine Koordinaten für die jeweils nächste Station ermittelt werden. Es muss lediglich jeweils eine Frage beantwortet werden. Mit den Antworten könnt ihr dann mittels der u.a. Formel das Final berechnen.
Keine Sorge; es sind zwar einige Stationen. Wer sie in der angegebenen Reihenfolge ansteuert (was kein Muss ist), kann diesen Multi recht effizient absolvieren. Das Finale führt euch dann – passenderweise – wieder zu einem namentlichen Bezug zum Nibelungenlied. Die Dose ist theoretisch 24/7 erreichbar. Ihre Platzierung ist zwar mit dem Kleingewerbetreibenden vor Ort abgestimmt. Trotzdem möchte ich euch bitte, unauffällig und nach Möglichkeit nicht im Dunkeln zu suchen. Wer das Finale dann zu besonderen Zeitfenstern besucht (i.d.R. Donnerstag und Freitag von 17:00 – 18:30 und Samstag von 10:00-14:00), kann sich sogar vor Ort eine Belohnung kaufen, mit nach Hause nehmen und damit die Absolvierung des Cache genießen.

Station 1:
Hier befinden wir uns am Volker Brunnen. Welche zwei Worte sind hinter dem Brunnen an die Wand geschrieben? (Buchstabenwortwert = I)
Station 2:
Hier befinden wir uns am alten Rathaus von Alzey. Im Turm gibt es ein Glockenspiel mit Volker von Alzey. An der Tafel auf der linken Seite der Tür sind die Spielzeiten abzulesen. Es gibt eine mit einer von der Regel abweichenden Spielzeit. Welche Minute ist die Abweichung? (= J)
Station 3:
Hier befinden wir uns auf dem zentralen Platz von Alzey, dem Roßmarkt. Wie versprochen seid ihr jetzt umgeben von verschiedenen gastronomischen Einrichtungen. Und ihr findet auch ein Pferd. Wie heißt es? (Buchstabenwortwert = K)
Station 4:
Hier befinden wir uns an der Nibelungen-Apotheke. Wie viele Bogenfenster sind an der Frontseite zur Straße zu sehen? (= H)

Station 6:
Hier befinden wir uns an der Volkerschule. Wie viele Parkplätze sind für die „Leitung“ reserviert? (= F)
Station 7:
Hier befinden wir uns in der Volkerstraße. Das Alzeyer Schloss grenzt an diese Straße an. Man findet aber auch noch den ehemaligen Sitz eines alten Handwerkbetriebs mit Werkstatt. Welche Telefonnummer ist hier oben in den Stein gehauen? (= G)
Station 8:
Hier befinden wir uns an der Nibelungenschule in der Nibelungenstraße. Wenn ihr von der Nibelungenstraße auf die Eingänge des Schulgebäudes schaut, seht ihr einige Versorgungskästen. Auf dem linken, weißen Versorgungskasten stehen drei Ziffern in Form einer Subtraktionsaufgabe. Was wäre das Ergebnis, wenn man es ausrechnen würde? (= D)
Station 9:
Hier befinden wir uns in der Siegfriedstraße. Dort steht ein langes Haus mit der Hausnummer 6. Wie viele Fenster sind auf der zur Straße gewandten Front des Gebäudes insgesamt zu zählen? (= C)
Station 10:
Hier befinden wir uns in der Kriemhildenstraße. Schaut von dieser Ecke in Richtung Siegfriedstraße. Auf der linken Seite der Straße ist ein Verkehrsschild mit einer durchgestrichenen Zahl. Wie lautet diese Zahl? (= B)
Station 11:
Hier befinden wir uns in der Hagenstraße. Wie viele Fahnenmaste stehen vor dem Seniorenheim? (= A)

Alzey carries the additional name 'Volkerstadt'. Of course, this is a reference to Volker of Alzey, who is mentioned in the Nibelungenlied (and in very optimistic circles, even brought into play as the author). I quoted the beginning of the Nibelungenlied above.
The exact origin of the epic is not really traceable. However, its significance is undisputed. Goethe said about it: "The knowledge of this poem belongs to a stage of education of the nation."
This epic takes place, among other locations, very close to Alzey. In the neighboring town of Worms, the famous and always well-cast Nibelungen Festival is held for a reason. If you do not want to go through the trouble of reading the entire Nibelungenlied (which I can absolutely understand and is not necessary for solving the cache 😉), I recommend the audiobook 'Nibelungenlied' by Peter Wapnewski. Here, Karl Simrock's translation is applied in the melodic verse of Middle High German and is very well explained and read with passages from the original text. Sometimes a bit self-satisfied; but definitely well-founded, entertaining, and easy to understand. You can easily find a free sample on the popular mainstream audiobook platforms, where the above-quoted lines are heard right at the beginning; and it sounds much better than what went through your mind when you tried to read the lines 😉. I did not regret the purchase afterward.
Now to the cache. It consists of several stations that have a nominal reference to the Nibelungenlied. No objects are hidden on site (except for the final), and no coordinates need to be determined for the next station. You only need to answer a question at each station. With the answers, you can then use the formula below to calculate the final.
Don't worry; there are indeed several stations. However, if you visit them in the suggested order (which is not mandatory), you can complete this multi quite efficiently. The final then takes you – fittingly – back to a nominal reference to the Nibelungenlied. The container is theoretically accessible 24/7. Its placement is coordinated with the local business owner, but I would still ask you to search discreetly and preferably not in the dark. If you visit the final at certain time windows (usually Thursday and Friday from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm), you can even buy a reward on-site, take it home, and enjoy completing the cache.
