Geocache Description:




This multi-cache is designed to take you around some of the interesting features of Hazlehead Park. Perhaps some that you know of, while others may be less well-known. The posted coordinates take you to stage 1 (Hazlehead Park gates).

 

1. Hazlehead Park Gates

Begin your walk here. There is an information board and map, where you can find the answer to the first question.

What animal is featured on the information board? = A

Red squirrel = 0

Peacock = 1

2. Tillycorthie Fountain

“This fountain was manufactured in 1883 to replace one destroyed by the fire at the Market the previous year. It later moved to Tillycorthie House near Udny, hence the name.”

Go to the information plaque which is now propped up on the kerb next to the fountain. Look at the second line; you’ll need to get down to have a close look.

3. Cooper Fountain

“This fountain was erected by Alexander Cooper, fruiterer, Aberdeen, 1901.”

4. Piper Alpha Memorial

“The memorial sculpture contains the names of all 167 men who died alongside their ages engraved on the pink granite plinth and was erected on the third anniversary of the disaster.”

5. Queen Mother Rose Garden

Read the information plaque. The garden commemorates the ??th birthday of the Queen Mother. = E

6. Well Spring of Netherton

There is little information about this well to be found online. Historic Environment Scotland describes it as a “gothic arch with piscina, flanked by buttresses. Rough granite in even courses. Erected to memory of Wm. Rose. Mid 19th century.”

Find the phrase at the bottom of the middle block: “GULIELMUS _____” = F
