Hello! And welcome to another CASH Cache.
Please don't get too excited by the name. There is no money to be found inside the container. In this instance, CASH stands for Concealed Around St Helier. And that's exactly what I intend to do. Bit by bit I hope to create a series of geocaches that encircles the whole of St Helier.
This one is hidden at the entrance gates to the former Strangers Cemetery (1832). The cemetery was intended specifically for soldiers of the Garrison and strangers but it was immediately brought into use to bury victims of a cholera epidemic and by 1865 it was declared full. The cemetery itself no longer exists as the land was redeveloped in the 1960’s during which time, the entrance to cemetery was bricked up. Over the course of the next few decades, many people completely forgot about the history of this site and passers-by could only wonder about the gates original purpose. But then, in 2019, the stone plaque and spectacular painted mural were added and the former entrance to Strangers Cemetery was saved from falling into obscurity.
