OPENING OF ST. VIRGILIUS
CHURCH, YATINA.

On Sunday, October 29, the Roman Catholic
Church of St. Virgilius, Yatina, was solemnly
blessed and dedicated to the worship of God by
His Lordship the Right Rev. C. A. Reynolds,
Bishop of Adelaide, assisted by the Rev. B.
Nevin, pastor of the district. After mass His
Lordship delivered a very eloquent and im
pressive sermon, taking his text from II. Parraal
lepomen, vii., 11, 16. His Lordship appealed
to the generosity of those present to help in
paying off the debt of the church they had that
day seen consecrated to the service of Almightyghty
God. After the collection His Lordship an
nounced that the contributions received
amounted to £110, and thanked those
present for the liberal manner in which
they responded to his appeal. On.
Monday His Lordship, assisted by the Rev.
B. Nevin, administered the sacrament of con
firmation to about 20 persons, and appealed to
those present to be ever-mindful of the blessing
they had that day received. Both before and
after confirmation His Lordship delivered very
edifying addresses, lucidly explaining the evil
effects of intemperance. All those to whom
the sacrament was administered promised to
abstain from intoxicating drink until they at
tained their 21st year. By this plan of com
mencing with the youth of both sexes His Lord- J
ship will ultimately have much reason to re
joice at the reformation effected in the morals
of society;
