1947 Aerial view of Weston Street, with Craftools Ltd and Henry Power Tools (later these two companies were sold to Ex-Cell-O) and Shell Depot on the L&PS rail line. At top is the large Richards-Wilcox factory complex.
This cache is off of a part of the TVP that goes no where. There was once a swamp looking west from where the cache is. The swamp is no more unfortunately. This cache was originally going to be hid up the hill near spikes volleyball and this cache was going to be dedicated to the history of the building that used to hold spikes volleyball and in 1940 was Craftools Ltd and Henry Power Tools, on Weston street. But due to some bad sightings the cache had been moved to safer spot. I don't want this to be another cache in the woods although nothing wrong with it, I wanted to include some history within the neighbourhood so he's a brief paragraph about the history of the current standing building.
Craftools Ltd began in 1940 and made bench vises for WWII due to high demand. During WWII they supplied all the vises used by the Canadian mobile army workshop trucks in England, Italy, Russia, China and India. They also made metal working equipment for industrial and schools. The company met the demands of hobbyists and carpenters. In 1945 Henry Power Tools began. By 1949 Craftools was the largest supplier of vises in Canada. It was later sold to ex-cell-o in 1953.
There is so much more information that can be learned about Craftools and the current building go to: http://vintagemachinery.org/mfgindex/detail.aspx?id=433&tab=0
Fast forward to 1981, a new part of the building had been built attached on the east side. Many different tenants have been in the newly built bay including, Arva Crane and Krocus Bakery, and most recently Spikes Volleyball. Spikes Volleyball has now moved out from the building in 2023.
Thank you for visiting my cache hope you enjoyed the cache and the history. If there's any issues or history you would like to include please let me know. I'm looking forward to creating more caches with historic backgrounds to it in the area!
Congrats to SpringH2OW for FTF!
