Nos Estados Unidos define aproximadamente a fronteira entre Arkansas a norte e Louisiana a sul: a fronteira situa-se cerca de 2 km a norte do paralelo. O Território da Louisiana era a parte da Compra da Louisiana de 1803 que ficava a norte deste paralelo. A região em torno do paralelo 33 N integra as chamadas latitudes dos cavalos.

In the United States it roughly defines the border between Arkansas to the north and Louisiana to the south: the border is located approximately 2 km north of the parallel. The Louisiana Territory was that part of the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 that lay north of this parallel. The region around the 33rd N parallel is part of the so-called horse latitudes.
