Welcome to Locust Corners
Welcome to Locus Corners and its church. The society that built this church was founded in 1857 and met for a few years in a school house about 1.5 miles southwest of this location before coming to this location. The building you see is around the 10th oldest religious building standing in the county and was built at the cost of $1583.80.
It was built as a Free Will Baptist Church and continued as such until 1951 when it dropped the Free Will portion. Many of its early pastors were not resident, but instead were provided by Hillsdale College (also a Free Will Baptist School at that time). In fact, only two of its first forty-two pastors were permanently assigned here. Given that, it is a remarkable accomplishment that at least through 1975, the church had never cancelled a service, sometimes postponed, but never cancelled. After that remarkable record, sadly the Locust Corners Baptist Church closed in the early 1990s.
