Through-hikers, on their way to ME or GA, have a fond (??) name for Pennsylvania..."Rocksylvania"... due to the infamous prevalence of rocks on the trail in our state. Personally, though I am NOT a through-hiker, I thought the Maryland section was plenty rocky, and have heard the same about NY and NJ. Nonetheless, I thought a fun hide to celebrate our rocks was in order.
Please park at the designated coordinates, walk across the hostel's lawn, and look for a grass path to the fire ring. Please avoid the search if you notice a wedding or other event on the lawn.
But please DON'T just stop for this cache, as there's SO much to see and do here at Pine Grove State Park. In addition to the hostel, the famous mid-point general store is nearby, and the AT Museum, where I'm a volunteer docent, is free and really cool! And the hikes around here are amazing - I mean seriously, you can be on that famous 2200-mile footpath in about 60 seconds from GZ.
