History

Moningarin Rock, which features two gnamma holes, was declared a reserve on 30 September 1904. It was originally 3,000 acres but has been reduced and land thrown open for selection five times. A rock catchment tank (dam) with a capacity of 500,000 gallons, costing £4,550, was finished in November 1929. It was first known by the Public Works Department as the Newcarlbeon New Tank as it had first been asked for by the Newcarlbeon Progress Association. This caused some confusion at times but later a tank was placed at Newcarlbeon proper, seven miles east of the Moningarin tank.
