Geocache Description:

POZOR: Koordinate tega zakladka se nahajajo v škatlici prvega zakladka iz serije GCADKT5 Kraške zgodbe 1. svetovne vojne #1 //ENG: The coodinates of this cache are hidden inside the box of the first cach in the series GCADKT5 Kraške zgodbe 1. svetovne vojne #1

ENG:

The cache is part of the Karst Stories series from World War I. To get the exact coordinates of the second cache, you first need to find the first cache in the series. The second cache is also located underground, in one of the two artificially drilled (cavernous) entrances to a larger natural cave, in the immediate vicinity of the Karst village of Novelo. The cavern is open and is maintained by the Caving Club Temnica. If you are coming by car, park at the sign at the end of the village of Novelo (before the road starts descending towards the village of Kostanjevica na Krasu). From here, walk to the cave along the paved and marked hiking path.

ABOUT THE CAVE NEAR NOVELO:

During the Isonzo Front (1915─1917), natural Karst caves were the only safe refuge for soldiers. The cave was named after Alois Peter Bock, who headed the cave construction department of the Austro-Hungarian army. The natural entrance to the cave is an 11-meter deep Karst collapse, which expands into a spacious hall. The army set up a multi-storey wooden structure inside the cave, where at once 1,500 soldiers and 30 officers could take a break from the battles. Two drilled artificial tunnels also led to this cave. After setting up the shelter, they sealed the natural entrance with several layers of concrete to protect the cave from shells. The protective cover and the wooden equipment inside the cave have not been preserved to this day.
