Geocache Description:

TOTU: Trails of the Unconfirmed!

This cache is one stop on a circuit that leads you around about 9 miles of Romney Marsh, between Old Romney and the Kent/East Sussex border. Along the way you will see a number of irrigation sewers, farms, churches, numerous fields, footpaths and tracks. Ideally you will need to start from Old Romney and follow the series from there. The walk has been set up to be followed in either direction, but could also be split into smaller 'circuits' too if you wish. Roadside parking can usually be found in Old Romney, but please choose your spot with care and respect the residents. When the ground is firm it is also possible to park your car on some of the grass verges along Midley Lane.

The route will take you along country lanes, farm tracks and marked footpaths. Please be aware that you will be out in the marshlands and some sections may become overgrown, particularly in the summer. There are several stiles to cross and field boundaries to follow. I would recommend long trousers and good footwear. Taking some gloves might also be a good idea as the stingers and the thorns in the area can be quite vicious!

Parts of the series follow sections along quiet lanes so be aware of vehicles. If you find yourself in a field please watch out for machinery and livestock. Along the way you will find yourself crossing railway tracks so again please be careful. No caches are hidden on railway property so don't be tempted to search there.

I would not recommend walking this series after dark. The marsh can be an unforgiving place. Deep, water filled ditches among other hazards are waiting for anyone who strays too far from the paths.

You are responsible for your own health and safety. Please take care, especially with kids and animals.

It is a remote area but phone signal is generally quite good due to the lack of any hills. That said I would always recommend you download all waypoints before leaving home.

OK?
