Geocache Description:

Not a labyrinth but BE AMAZED...a maze in Manitoba!

AMAZING FUN FACTS

  • Labyrinths—the predecessor of the maze — were first created not to confuse, but to send visitors on a spiritual journey.
  • Labyrinths are unicursal, while mazes are branching.
  • The first recorded labyrinth dates to the 5th century BC in Egypt.
  • The word "maze" dates to the 13th century and comes from the middle English word meaning “delirium” or “delusion.”
  • The earliest hedge mazes were built to entertain royalty as well as to provide private, out-of-the-way places for secret meetings.
  • In the 1980s, illustrator Christopher Manson announced a $10,000 prize for the first person to solve the riddle in his 45-page maze book with its astonishing 116 puzzles – a story in itself, took 2 years to solve - amazing!
  • The world's largest hedge maze contains almost 4 km of paths - staggering!
