McKinney Falls needed more caches, so we obliged. From this parking lot and trailhead, you can acess the Shelter Rock earth cache (GC4DEMZ) and if you follow the Homestead trail sgns you will come to another new cache and one of the oldest in the state, TPW (GCC9A - Published 6/16/01) You will NOT need to cross the creek to access this cache. The other caches on the Homestead loop as well at the Gristmill historical site (N30 11.324 W97 43.170) Will require crossing the creek. The best area to cross is at N30 11.308 W97 43.261. When the creek is dry, this is a fairly easy crossing, but in wet weather or recent rain, the crossing may be wet, slippery or inaccessible.
