O Chip das Zonas Altas
As áreas urbanizadas do Município do Funchal têm vindo nas últimas décadas, a crescer para as cotas mais elevadas, hoje conhecidas como Zonas Altas do Funchal. Esta expansão urbana fez-se em boa parte sem planeamento territorial e urbanístico, num contexto territorial onde o fenómeno da construção ilegal é uma realidade incontornável, estando na origem de diversos problemas provocados pela ocupação descontrolada do território mais periférico, que tem como consequência a falta de espaços públicos, de equipamentos, áreas verdes e acessos adequados para a generalidade da população residente, fundamentais à vivência humana. Em resultado geram-se situações de carência urbana e de conflito, com efeitos na qualidade vida dos residentes. Tendo em conta esta realidade, a par da recente adaptação à Região da legislação nacional que permite a reconversão de áreas urbanas de génese ilegal, abre-se uma janela de oportunidade que, aproveitando todo este processo, poderá promover à reconversão destas Zonas Altas do Funchal.
The urbanized areas of the Municipality of Funchal have been growing in recent decades to higher elevations, today known as Zonas Altas do Funchal. This urban expansion took place largely without territorial and urban planning, in a territorial context where the phenomenon of illegal construction is an unavoidable reality, being at the origin of several problems caused by the uncontrolled occupation of the most peripheral territory, which results in the lack of of public spaces, equipment, green areas and adequate access for the majority of the resident population, fundamental to human experience. As a result, situations of urban deprivation and conflict are generated, with effects on the quality of life of residents. Taking this reality into account, along with the recent adaptation to the Region of national legislation that allows the conversion of urban areas with illegal origins, a window of opportunity is opening which, taking advantage of this entire process, could promote the conversion of these High Zones of Funchal.

Esta cache visa principalmente dar a conhecer este local e oferecer uma boa perspetiva sobre a expansão do Funchal nas Zonas Altas. Neste momento, é de igual modo, observar as obras que estão a decorrer no âmbito da conexão dos Lombos das zonas altas de Santo António e São Roque, principalmente entre o Lombo da Ribeira de Santana, o Lombo do Galeão e a Alegria. Para além destas futuras ligações, poderá de momento visitar o sítio da Esperança, seguindo a estrada para norte. Ainda perto da cache, existe um campo de futebol, churrasqueira, mesas e um miradouro soberbo sobre o Funchal.
A cache é simples. Contém apenas o logbook. Traga consigo material de escrita. Por norma, é um local pouco movimentado. Contudo, caso estejam a utilizar o campo de futebol, tenha cuidado ao procurar pela cache. Consulte a dica.
This cache mainly aims to make this place known and offer a good perspective on the expansion of Funchal in the High Zones. At this moment, it is also important to observe the works that are taking place within the scope of connecting the Lombos of the high areas of Santo António and São Roque, mainly between Lombo da Ribeira de Santana, Lombo do Galeão and Alegria. In addition to these future connections, you can currently visit the Esperança site, following the road north. Still close to the cache, there is a football pitch, barbecue area, tables and a superb viewpoint over Funchal.
