Geocache Description:

THE POSTED COORDINATES ARE NOT CORRECT – IT COULD GET BUSY ON GAME DAY

Cache #190

Australian Rules Football is the dominate sport in the southern Riverina. Traveling around Federation Shire just about every town and village has a football oval. Many are no longer in use, with the teams often merging with teams in the larger towns. Most of the current teams are participants in the Hume Football Netball League, but many have participated in more localised leagues. This series will take you to some of these football grounds and give you some of the history of the local clubs. Some grounds are still active (might be busy on game day) and at least one does not permit access. However, all hides are of a similar nature and do not require entry to the ground (though you may want recreate an after the siren grand final winning goal if you are so inclined).

To find the cache you will need to solve the following puzzle. Most of the information is available at the following website Australian Football NSW but you may need to hunt a bit further to find some of the answers.

The Howlong Spiders play at the Howlong Recreation Ground. They formed in 1898 and have played in the Rutherglen and District Football Association and the Ovens and Murray and Chiltern and District Leagues before joining the Hume League in 1953. They have won six premierships in this league. They play in black and red (the Essendon Bombers colours).

The last year in Ovens and Murray Football Netball League was 191A?

The last premiership (as at 2023) was won in 201B?

They won the Rutherglen and District Football Association premiership in 191C?

In the 2023 season of the Hume League they suffered D losses?

Their first premiership in the Hume Football Netball League was in 195E?

All the hides in this series are a bison hidden in a similar manner. Take note of the colour of the container as this will help you with the final puzzle (GCAEK94 - Federation Ovals - CDHBU Power). The colours to choose from are:

BLACK

BLUE

GOLD

PINK

RED

SILVER

Once you have these noted you should be able to solve the final coordinates at Coreen.

Stealth will be required at these caches and as in rural locations snakes might be about in the warmer months. Otherwise, we hope you enjoy this series exploring the footie fields of Federation Shire.
