In Zuid-Limburg bevinden zich zo'n 250 oude mergelgroeves ('grotten'). Veel van deze groeves worden in de wintermaanden 'bewoond' door verschillende soorten vleermuizen, die hier hun winterslaap houden (van oktober tot april ongeveer). Als gids in de groeves in de Sint Pietersberg, vind ik het altijd leuk als de vleermuizen er weer zijn. Dit event organiseer ik dan ook om te 'vieren' dat het 'vleermuis seizoen' weer begonnen is. Van 18.00 tot 19.00 uur is er gelegenheid om tb's uit te wisselen en om te kletsen over onze gezamelijke hobby: geocachen. Daarna neem ik de groep mee op een rondleiding van ongeveer 1.30 uur door mergelgroeve Zonneberg. Donkere gangen, sporen van de geschiedenis, kunstwerken in mergel of houtskool... we zullen het allemaal tegenkomen. En wellicht zullen we zelfs wat (slapende) vleermuizen zien!
Deelname aan het event en de wandeling is gratis. Iedereen is van 18.00 tot 19.00 uur welkom op het event. Ik mag echter maar een beperkt aantal mensen meenemen in de groeve. Let op! Dit gaat op volgorde van inschrijving, per PM! Mocht de groep voor de wandeling onverhoopt vol zijn, dan komt er een wachtlijst. Dus indien je graag mee wilt wandelen, stuur dan zsm een PM!
Praktische informatie
Het event Bij slecht weer is er (wat) gelegenheid om te schuilen.
Wandeling Het is ongeveer 5-10 minuten lopen naar de ingang van de grot. Eenmaal in de grot is het vrij koud, met 10ºC en een zeer hoge luchtvochtigheid. Warme kleding en comfortabel schoeisel zijn aanbevolen. (Zak)lampen meenemen mag maar is niet noodzakelijk.
Let op! Er is geen toilet gelegenheid!

There are approximately 250 old marl quarries ('caves') in this part of the Netherlands. Many of these quarries are 'inhabited' in the winter months by different species of bats; they hibernate here (from October to April approximately). As a guide in the caves of Mount Saint Peter, I'm always happy when the bats are back. So I'm organizing this event to 'celebrate' that 'bat season' has started again. From 18.00 tot 19.00 o'clock we will have the opportunity to exchange tb's and chat about our shared hobby: geocaching. Afterwards i will take the group on a guided tour (of approximately 1h30) through old marl quarry the Zonneberg. Dark corridors, traces of history, artwork in marl or charcoal... we will see it all. And we might even see some (sleeping) bats!
Participation in the event and the walk are free of charge. Everybody is welcome at the event from 18.00 to 19.00 o'clock. But I can only take a limited number of people onto the guided tour into the quarry. NB! This will be in order of registration; by PM! In case the guided tour is full, a waiting list will be created. Practical information:
The event In case of bad weather there is (some) opportunity to take shelter.
The tour in the cave It's about 5-10 mins walking to the entrance of the cave. With 10ºC and very high humidity, it is rather cold in the caves. Warm clothing and comfortable footwear are recommended. (Flash)lights are allowed, but not really necessary.
NB! There are no toilet facilities!
