Going large at the Bacon Siphon.
One of my favorite early caches was called "Make-n-Bacon" at this general area. The Bacon Siphon tunnels come out at this location to supply water to the main canal for the Columbia Basin Irrigation project. The first tunnel being completed in 1948 and the second completed in 1979. For some fascinating history of this location, just google "Bacon Siphon." You won't be disapointed.
Over my few years of caching, I've only found a few large cache containers and prompted by a recent, incredible large find, (Mission 13: Tube of Darkness), I thought I would hide one myself. Well..., now I know why there are so few. It's super hard finding a spot to hold and hide a large container. And even though this is a very remote location, there were several muggles about. From fishing, to trail bikes and other explorers, it was difficult to move about unseen. After a considerable amount of time, I stumbled upon a suitable location out of view of others. Albeit a little more difficult than planned. You will have to cross a few boulders and retrieve the container from its cubby. Which hopefully won't be too hard as I had a bear of a time poking it in there.
Before you get to the siphon, there will be a spur road to your right. Drive up a few hundred yards and the cache will be very close to the road. You are looking for an extra large ammo box full to the top with swag. There is a log book and pen. Since we're going large, I dropped seven trackables as well. After you make the find, there is a nice turn-around not far up the road. Before you leave the area, make sure to drive to the very end of the road and check out the Bacon Siphon. Use extreme caution around the canal as the water is swift and dangerous. Be on the lookout for snakes as well.
