The Great Northern Greenway follows, as you might suspect, the route of the Great Northern Railway past Breadsall village. It is a cycle and pedestrian route - this section has been open since 2009. At times it can get extremely busy, especially with dog walkers.
This series of geocaches will take you from the parking spot at the top of Brookside Road, where it meets the main road to Heanor (A608), along the Greenway until it reaches the main road again. It is definitely a walk of two halves. If you follow the series in numerical order you will soon be off the road and onto a very pleasant walk amongst the trees - a variety of caches with a mix of D/T combinations. Some of the Terrain ratings will vary according to the season - I have set them for the worst they will get (I think!) You will also visit the site of the former Breadsall railway station, where the remains of railway structures can still be seen - the cache at that point has been labeled as a "REALLY SideTracked" cache.
Once you rejoin the main road (after GNG 13) the route is less pleasant, as the A608 is a very busy road and the pavement is quite narrow in places. I did consider just making it a linear trail so as to avoid this section, but I know that the majority of cachers prefer a circular route - but please be careful along here.
If you fancy doing the less attractive section first, then simply do the series in reverse. Of course, you can opt to do the caches in any order you like - suggested parking coordinates have been given for GNG01, but there are plenty of other places where you could start from instead.
Only one of the caches requires you to cross the A608, and that's this one, which is a large micro.
