However, since this is the "Great Northern" Greenway, it is not surprising to find an old railway station along the way.
Breadsall Station was opened in 1878. It was on the Great Northern's Friargate Line, which ran from Derby to Nottingham, via West Hallam and Ilkeston and then crossing the Bennerley Viaduct. The photo is from 1961, but by this time passenger services at the station had finished (1953) the station closed to goods traffic in 1962. The line itself was abandoned in 1968.
Unlike most abandoned stations, there are still things to be seen here, and the railway buffs will be able to identify many of the features of the old station from the footprint of its buildings.
