Geocache Description:

14 October 2023, 11:00 - 12:00

Cache In Trash Out® (CITO) is an environmental initiative supported by the geocaching community. Since 2002, CITO has enabled geocachers to beautify and restore natural and urban spaces. In that time, there have been more than 536,000 logged attendances at nearly 29,000 events where geocachers helped improve the outdoors.

Actions often speak louder than words. By participating in a CITO Event, whether by collecting trash, planting trees, or crafting new homes for pollinators, we make our world a better place. Each CITO we attend is a testament to care: care for others, our communities, and our planet.

CITO Events can be a safe, socially distant way to gather that adheres to your local laws and health guidance for outdoor activities. As with all outdoor activities, please follow the most current regulations from public health authorities.

Where: Church Bay, Rathlin Island

When: 11:00-12:00, Saturday 14th October 2023

Why: To help Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful clean up marine litter

Your Task: Collect as much micro-litter as possible!

What to bring: Sturdy footwear, warm and waterproof clothing, a daysack with your packed lunch (?) and drinks for the day

As part of Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful’s goal to clean up marine litter we have been offered a spot on Rathlin Island to help make the area shine! There appears to be a collection of troublesome smaller litter throughtout the bay and roadside including netting, string and polystryene balls which will be our target! Size doesn't matter when you consider who or what it may be effecting!

Unless you can fly or swim really well you will likely need to book ferry tickets! If you need help finding the resource for this just let me know. I will be booked on a 10:00 ferry to arrive on the island at 10:40 in time for this CITO to begin.

Dogs are likely allowed on the ferry (provider dependent) but will need to be kept on a lead, and under certain circumstances the owner and dog may be asked to stand on the outer deck.

The event will be cancelled if the ferry services are cancelled due to inclement weather. Plan B will then come into action close to Ballycastle so make sure you make a Will Attend or add this CITO to your Watch List so you receive any last minute notifications in case of this scenario.

See you then!

Best wishes, warmest regards
