Guided by the 2015 Memorial Park Master Plan, Eastern Glades is the first major project to be implemented in Houston’s wilderness park, reclaiming 100 acres of previously inaccessible land. Eastern Glades significantly expands passive and recreational opportunities in the park responding to a growing demand by Houston’s families wishing to enjoy the area. The new design also adds additional parking and restrooms; extends the Seymour Lieberman Trail to a full 3-mile loop; establishes a 5-acre lake and wetlands; provides picnicking, trails, boardwalks and opportunities to learn about natural habitat systems.
Eastern Glades establishes new passive recreation and education areas while also restoring Memorial Park’s natural ecology. The completed Eastern Glades features the following amenities and opportunities for relaxation, reflection, and rejuvenation:
- 100 acres of open space
- 5 ½-acre Hines Lake and wetlands with beautiful sunset views
- 3 pavilions and 4 picnic areas
- 2 ½ miles of new trails explore, including boardwalks along the Lake and Wetlands
- 5 ½-acre Central Lawn for passive recreation such as strolling, picnicking, and relaxing
- Oval Promenade encircling the grassy Central Lawn
- Live Oak Court for concessions and events
- Additional parking (including handicap/disability parking), dark sky lighting, water fountains for people and pups, benches, and bike racks
There are frequently joggers, hikers, and picnickers, using the area so stealth must be exercised when grabbing the cache; also please replace the container exactly as found to minimize muggle activity. There is adequate parking in the area.
