This one is for our fellow hikers! We often find ourselves on some section of the Finger Lakes Trail, and there just aren't many caches to be found on these hikes, When thinking of where to place this one, Burt Hill came to mind. This stretch of trail is beautiful, and so are the views on the drive in! Also along this section is one of our favorite lean-tos for camping while on the trail.
This is a more remote and difficult to access area. The trail to the cache is mixed terrain, lots of roots and rocks plus two creekbed crossings with steep banks if you come in from the east side. If you come in from the west, you'll be walking mostly downhill until you reach the lean-to and then back up to your vehicle. The cache is located within sight of the lean-to and a half mile in from the east side's trailhead.
This is a straightforward ammo can hide (it was hidden with the supervision of our two-year-old, after all) with lots of room for trackables - plus a bug for the FTF! It's meant to be fun and enrich your walk, not to be hard. Please hide it well after you sign to protect it from muggles.
