大井巷南起鼓楼，北至河坊街，因巷内东侧有一口五眼大井而得名。传说在五代时期，有个叫征韶的和尚为解决老百姓喝水问题，凿了一个一丈见方的大井，开五眼，井水清澈，源源不断。南宋淳祐七年（公元1247年），临安城大旱，城里所有的井水都干了，唯独这口井一直没干，老百姓都到这里来取水。短短300米不到的大井巷，如今是年轻人休闲的好去处，一面是百年历史的文保古建，一面是西式的咖啡店。
河坊街曾是古代都城杭州的“皇城根儿”，更是南宋的文化中心和经贸中心。历元、明、清、民国，河坊街成为当时的政治、经济、文化中心。街区内仍保留着唐朝天门、南宋御街、于谦故居，胡雪岩故居、胡庆余堂国药号及一批晚清和民国时期的建筑。作为杭州市区惟一的保持古城历史风貌的老街，河坊街凝聚了杭州最具代表性的历史文化、商业文化、市井文化和建筑文化。
Dajing Alley, stretching from Drum Tower in the south to Hefang Street in the north, is named after a five-eye well on the east side of the alley. Legend has it that during the Five Dynasties period, a monk named Zheng Shao dug a one-zhang-square (approximately 3.3 meters) large well with five eyes to solve the water problem for the common people. The well water was clear and never ran dry. In the seventh year of Chunyou during the Southern Song Dynasty (1247 AD), there was a severe drought in Lin'an City, and all the wells in the city dried up except for this well, which continued to provide water for the people. Today, the less-than-300-meter-long Dajing Alley is a popular destination for young people, featuring both century-old preserved historical buildings and Western-style cafes.
Hefang Street was once the "Imperial City Base" of the ancient capital of Hangzhou in the Southern Song Dynasty. Throughout the Yuan, Ming, Qing, and Republic of China periods, Hefang Street was the political, economic, and cultural center of its time. The district still preserves Tang Dynasty Tianmen, Southern Song Imperial Street, Yu Qian's former residence, Hu Xueyan's former residence, Hu Qingyu Tang, and a group of buildings from the late Qing and Republic of China periods. As the only old street in Hangzhou's urban area that maintains the historical appearance of the ancient city, Hefang Street embodies Hangzhou's most representative historical culture, commercial culture, grassroots culture, and architectural culture.
