Starting from Kallithea, head towards the village cemetery and take a sharp right onto the dirt road leading to Panagia Makrini.
Please note that this spot is only accessible by 4-wheel drive vehicles or cross-country vehicles!
As you navigate the dirt road, you'll come across vibrant and colorful soil. After a series of hairpin bends, there's a narrow road on the left that leads up to a peak. We recommend hiking up to a small stone hut located at the peak. During the summer months, these places serve as watchtowers for detecting forest fires. The dedicated firefighters are on duty from May to October and welcome visitors. They can promptly call for assistance in case of a significant forest fire threat to the valuable woodlands on the islands.
From the peak, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Western and Northern coasts, as well as the surrounding sea of Samos. On clear days, you can even spot the islands of Patmos, Fourni, Ikaria, Chios, and the Turkish coastline. In the autumn season, your view can extend to cover half of the Eastern Aegean Sea.
