La villa Cerami era la residenza della famiglia Rosso di Cerami, ramo della famiglia Rosso. Oggi è la sede del Dipartimento di Giurisprudenza dell' Università degli Studi di Catania. Fu costruita pochi anni dopo il terribile terremoto dell'11 gennaio 1693, che distrusse la Città e gran parte del Val Demone e del Val di Noto.
Nel corso della propria residenza, la famiglia Cerami la abbellì con decorazioni barocche e mobilio prezioso. Nel 1881 la villa ebbe anche degli ospiti d’eccezione, il re Umberto e la regina Margherita, in onore dei quali fu tenuto un ricevimento con ballo. Il Novecento ha rappresentato un periodo di decadenza per Villa Cerami. Grazie però al suo acquisto nel 1957 da parte dell’Università di Catania, la villa è ritornata al suo antico splendore. I colori degli affreschi furono ravvivati e le sale, così come tappeti, specchiere, divani e tavoli, restaurati.
Il portale d’ingresso di villa Cerami, sede della facoltà di Giurisprudenza, conduce a un ampio cortile e a uno scalone monumentale. Il cortile, diventato luogo di incontro e di studio dei giovani studenti, è arricchito da una fontana bronzea realizzata da Emilio Greco, raffigurante la Grande Bagnante.
Fra l'Aula Magna, i salotti e le stanze che furono quelle di abitazione della principessa, fu realizzata un'ampia hall, come vasta corte interna, al centro della Villa stessa .
All'esterno, fu eliminato il balcone e ricostruita al posto di esso la balaustrata, il rivestimento marmoreo del muro e, nel contempo, furono ravvicinate al portone le due finestre laterali, mentre il portone fu ristretto. La scala interna a due rampe, realizzata dal Sada, fu conservata.
Il monumentale scalone e il ricco portale d'ingresso che immette nell'edificio della Villa, attraverso lo spazioso cortile, rimasero immutati.

Villa Cerami was the residence of the Rosso di Cerami family, a branch of the Rosso family. Today it is the seat of the Department of Law of the University of Catania. During its residence, the Cerami family embellished it with baroque decorations and precious furniture. In 1881 the villa also had exceptional guests, King Umberto and Queen Margherita, in whose honor a reception with dance was held. The twentieth century represented a period of decadence for Villa Cerami. However, thanks to its purchase in 1957 by the University of Catania, the villa has returned to its former glory. The colors of the frescoes were revived and the rooms, as well as carpets, mirrors, sofas and tables, restored.
Between the Aula Magna, the living rooms and the rooms that were the princess’s home, a large hall was built, as a large internal courtyard, in the centre of the Villa itself.
On the outside, the balcony was removed and the balustrade, and the marble covering of the wall were rebuilt in place of it and, at the same time, the two side windows were brought closer to the door, while the door was narrowed. The internal staircase with two ramps, built by Sada, was preserved.
The monumental staircase and the rich entrance portal that leads into the building of the Villa, through the spacious courtyard, remained unchanged.
