TOTTS – Tools of the Trade. We all have our favorites, some are luxury fun TOTTs, but others are absolutely vital! This cache celebrates TOTTs and will require you to use several of them: the more, the better!
This multicache sports an uncommon D/T rating. Before we submitted it, there were NO other multis with a D5/T4.5 in the state of Wisconsin, only two in Minnesota and only 173 in the world. The difficulty rating comes from needing to use multiple TOTTs and solving a field puzzle at the final. The terrain rating comes from hiking (less than a mile total if you don’t get lost) with hills, brambles, bushwhacking and extracting stuff from high up in trees.
At stage one, you will need either a Chirp compatible device (probably a handheld GPS unit) OR a smartphone with an app that can read a NFC tag. (NFC = Near Field Communication, hold your smart phone close to it like you are paying for something with a “tap”.) Either one will give you the North coordinates of the Final, but if you use BOTH devices, you get extra clues!
Also at stage one, you will need a 10-foot TOTT to get a container with more information. Inside, you will need either a QR code reader OR a UV light. Either one gives you the West coordinates of the final, and again, if you use both TOTTs you get extra clues!
At the Final, you will be faced with a field puzzle to get the key to the cache. Pay attention to all the clues!
The trail map of our farm may be useful as you navigate to various waypoints en route to stage one or stage 2. You can get clues for useful waypoints, like where to enter the trail system or where to start bushwhacking off the trails!
