Geocache Description:

This is a devious cache and is hidden in plain sight! Something you see here is not what it looks like.  Congratulations to catchapig as First To Find!

This cache brings you to the area near the intersection of 20th and K Streets in Midtown. Beginning in the 1970’s this area emerged as a neighborhood haven for gay and lesbian (G&L) people due to its high concentration of G&L venues, businesses and resources. Today, the area is known as Lavender Heights. The Lavender Library was established in 1998 as a research and information institution for G&L people in Sacramento. The Rainbow Chamber of Commerce established in 2001 to unify and support G&L businesses, as well as to foster a more equitable business climate. Former Sacramento City Council member Steve Hansen championed the city’s official recognition and naming of the district. The name Lavender Heights became official in 2015, an achievement memorialized by the unveiling of the rainbow crosswalks at the intersection of 20th and K Street. Today, Lavender Heights is embraced as vital to Sacramento’s diverse cultural and historical tapestry.
