A Slice of Christmas Pie Traditional Geocache
Amy and Adam's Dad: Sadly, I think it’s time to close this cache down after over 8 years! There aren’t many places to hide a box along this footpath and now it has been found it’s too risky.

This easy cache is a special one for Christmas; it is an Advent
calendar cache and is located in Surrey. When planted near the
appropriately named “Christmaspie” this cache contained
24 items with a Christmas theme, a festive logbook and a very
special Travel Bug.
Christmaspie is located on the northern side of the A31 to the west
of Guildford, please take care when turning off/onto this fast
road. You need the B3000 Goldalming/Puttenham/Wanborough exit and
head in the Wanborough/Wyke direction.
Suggested parking is on Flexford Road at N 51 14.531 W 000 39.898
(near the bench). Although there are two public footpaths leading
to the cache it is better to take the lower one by the stream, the
top path is flooded after rain. To find the lower one walk down
Flexford Road, over the stream and look for the arch in the hedge
(N 51 14.525, W 000 39.818).
Cross the paddock keeping the stream to your right, mind the
electric fence tape for the horse! The footpath can be muddy and
boots or wellies are essential. You will be led to a stepping stone
crossing point over the stream, be careful, one of the stones is
wobbly! Cross here and follow the stream and grass
‘verge’ at the left side of the field. You will come to
a junction and a three way footpath sign, from there it is easy,
let your GPSr guide you.
The cache itself is a three litre tupperware box wrapped in a green
plastic bag. The 24 items are Christmas themed presents for
geocachers, there was not enough space to wrap them but they all
have a special gift tag. The "Amy's Fairy" travel bug we released
here also has a very special duty this Christmas (2002).
We would like you to visit the cache and take a present for
yourself and sign the logbook. This is our way of saying thanks for
all the fun we have had caching this year. Help yourself to a slice
of our Christmas Pie!
The location was chosen due to its name rather than the views,
nevertheless, we hope that you have a nice stroll. It’s a
fairly easy walk, mostly on the level and should only take 20
minutes or so each way. You could combine it with a stroll around
Wanborough with its interesting buildings including the church and
the great barn.
If you want to take a photograph of your team at the road sign
(which has been changed in 2003 for a more modern style) head for
(N 51 14.432, W 000 40.351).
The history of Christmaspie
It is named after Christmas Pie Farm (1823), and is probably
associated with the Christmas family mentioned in 16th century
records. More recently, on August 16 1940 a Hurricane aircraft
attacking a German Heinkel, was hit by return fire and was forced
to land in these fields, the aircraft was badly damaged as it
ploughed through a forest of anti-invasion posts set up in the
field. The pilot, P/O P. Boot, escaped unhurt and was discovered
cursing the 'fools' who had set up the posts to prevent enemy
gliders or aircraft landing in the field if Britain was
invaded.
At Green Lane East (formerly Christmas Pie Road), near the road
sign, you will find Christmas Pie House, Christmas Pie Copse and
even a house called Crackers! Remains of a Romano-British temple
and a Celtic Temple have been found here.
Although this is a Christmas cache, we will leave it in place all
year. We intend to restock it with Christmas themed goodies in due
course.
