How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Themed cache located in a city park/nature area. PLEASE RE-COVER AT LEAST AS WELL AS YOU FOUND IT. Given the location, it will be plundered if it is not adequately covered. It is the covering that earns this a 1.5 on difficulty.

No voluntary trails please - you can get to within 10 feet of the cache on existing trails and this area is already honeycombed with trails as it is. This is a short walk on mostly level trails (paved/woodchip/dirt). Some trails have stairs along them, but it is possible to get to the cache using trails without stairs, thus the terrain rating as handicap accessable.

This cache is a book exchange and is in a large ammo container. Please restrict your exchanges to books or other reading material only please. (And remember that geocaching is a family activity. ) Travel bugs are, of course, welcome, as is anyone who wishes to log only. All of the initial books are registered with Bookcrossing.com, and I would encourage others to do the same, as well as to log your experience with the books on Bookcrossing.

This container has catches on both ends and can be a bear to close. The easiest way to do it is to push the top down evenly in place first, then fasten both catches. All books have been separately bagged in their own ziplock bag. Please either bring your book or whatever similarly bagged, or switch the books in the bags. Thanks.

The cache initially contains:

A Morbid Taste for Bones, by Ellis Peters, the first in Peters' wonderful series of medieval murder mysteries.

Holidays in Hell, by P.J. O'Rourke, a different approach to travel writing

We Were Soldiers Once, . . . And Young, by Lt. Gen. Harold G. Moore, the rest of the story. The movie does not adequately demonstrate how much of a cluster**** this battle was. This book does and is one of the finest small unit military histories I've ever read.

Comstock Lode, by Louis L'Amour, for those who love westerns.

Coyote Waits, by Tony Hillerman, another murder mystery/police procedural with the twist of Navajo culture.

Finally, I am also starting the Travel Bug, Wiser, the Bookowl, at this cache.

This is my first cache. I thought it would be fun to blend two of my passions. I would appreciate comments on what you think of this idea.
