Geocache Description:

"Bad libraries build collections, good libraries build services, great libraries build communities."
- R. David Lankes

This letterbox hybrid was placed with permission and is full of (and surrounded by) treasure, especially if you're a lover of books. It should be a safe place for trackables. There is no employee interaction or purchase necessary to find the cache, but questions and conversation are welcomed.

NOTE: This letterbox is only available while the library is open so please note hours of operation.

Follow the instructions to locate the letterbox which can be found at call number ABC.D.

From the posted coordinates, walk southwest on the sidewalk (powerlines at your back) until you see a brown & white sign about improperly parked vehicles. Use the information here to determine the numeric values for A & B.

     A = number of letters in the first word of the towing company: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ towing
     B = A + 2

Next, continue southwest on the sidewalk past several picnic tables and a locker named Chatter. At the corner of the Family Building, stop to determine the final two numbers needed.

     C = if roof overhang is blue, C is 0   /  if overhang is orange, C is 6
     D = third digit of address on Family Building

Finally, walk twenty paces southwest to the nearby building where you'll find the letterbox located at ABC.D inside! A stamp and ink pad are provided. Please observe posted signage and if you have the time, stick around to admire this beautiful community space. 📚

About the NewHolly Branch Library

The Holly Park Station opened in May of 1943 as part of a housing project development for defense workers. After World War II, many families moved away and eventually, the Seattle Housing Authority converted the complex into subsidized, low-income housing. The library moved and expanded, but it occupied places that had been designed for use as residential homes. The buildings were so small that people lined up outside waiting to get in. Before it moved to its new location, the former Holly Park Library was 1,924 square feet.

The current NewHolly Branch was relocated and opened on Nov. 20, 1999, in the NewHolly Neighborhood Campus. The branch was designed using new urbanism concepts to enliven the neighborhood. It is housed within a "Campus of Learners" that includes a K-12 tutoring program, a jobs center, a branch of South Seattle Community College, child care centers, and more.
