The First 90 Seconds of MTV | August 1, 1981
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3SVhb48MUc
On Saturday, August 1, 1981, at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time, MTV was launched with the words "Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll", spoken by John Lack and played over footage of the first Space Shuttle launch countdown of Columbia (which took place earlier that year) and the launch of Apollo 11. The words were followed by the original MTV theme song, a rock tune composed by Joathan Elias and John Petersen, playing over the U.S. flag changed to show MTV's logo changing into different textures and designs.
I was enjoy the company of friends at The Red Onion, Kosciuzko St Manchester, NH. Our heads were tiltied to the TV screen, most of the night and we talked about how cool MTV was till closing. The first video was the Buggles with "Video Killed the Radio Star". folowed by Pat Banatar with, "You Better Run". Rod Stewart had the third song with "She won't Dance with Me". When MTV first hit the airwaves, the first face that viewers saw was Alan Hunter’s.
The first day featured numerous errors including playing clips at the wrong times, moments of dead air, videos that wouldn't play correctly and other technical difficulties.
