DESCRIPTION:
This is a multi-cache, created on Friday the 13th. It begins on east 13th Street (of course), at the intersection with Moody Avenue, in North Vancouver's Grand Boulevard neighbourhood. This neighborhood is also known for having plenty of old heritage houses which residents like to decorate extensively during holidays like Halloween and Christmas. Ray Perrault Park is located in the central part of the Grand Boulevard neighbourhood. There is a playground, some tennis courts, and sports fields.
The cache is not located at the posted coordinates. Solving the cache will not be too difficult. It is designed to be fast, a park and grab with a parking lot conveniently located next to it. There are several stages of clue gathering, and once you have all 13 clues, you will be calculating adjustments to the posted coordinates, to figure out the final location. If you were placed on Friday the 13th, you would hide too !
DIRECTIONS & CLUES:
Starting at the posted coordinates, there is an obvious green sign there which names this park.
Clue A: How many words in total are on the front panel of this sign?
Clue B: How many short wooden pegs are on the front face of this sign?
Approximately 25 m. west of the starting location (see waypoint), on the sidewalk, you will see two green signs on top of a pole.
Clue C: The upper sign has a letter - What is the numerical value of that letter?
Clue D: The lower sign has a word. How many letters of that word are vowels?
Approximately 25 m. east of the starting location (see waypoint), on the sidewalk, there is a black pole which has an illuminated speed warning sign. Look at the west side of the pole, where the name of the manufacturer is indicated with two words.
Clue E: How many letters is the first word of the manufacturer's name?
Clue F: How many letters is the last word of the manufacturer's name?
Now head north from the center of the nearby parking lot, and find the rock with the metal plaque which is dedicated to Ray Perrault.
Clue G: What number is the day of Mr. Perrault's death ?
Clue H: What number is the day of Mr. Perrault's birth ?
There is also a coat of arms in the top-left corner of this plaque, with a motto written on the bottom.
Clue I: How many letters are there if you add the first plus third words of the motto?
Clue J: How many letters are there if you add the second plus fourth words ?
Clue K: On the plaque's last line of text there are two years listed. What is the third digit of the first year plus the second digit of the second year ?
Finally, behind the rock with the plaque (about 5 m. north) you will see a sign post with a green sign above and a blue sign below.
Clue L: What is the total number of words with large letters on both signs?
(Ignore the "City of North Vancouver" in small print.)
Clue M = What is clue G divided by Clue H ?
CALCULATING THE FINAL COORDINATES:
Using the minutes of the posted coordinates ( N 49° 19.197' W 123° 3.594' ), modify them according to the following formula:
NORTH: (add) + K. (A-C) (I-J) (E-F)
WEST: (subtract) - K. (B-M) (D) (L)
(Basically, add the clue results to the last four digits of North, subtract from the last four digits of West.)
The cache is a small sized cylinder with Geocaching markings, concealed from the view of passers by.
It contains a log sheet and pencil. A small prize might be added for the First To Find.
