This groomed gravel connector trail, from McLeod Road to Cottonwood Ave, will take you to Shuksan Meadows Neighbporhood Park and Shuksan Middle School. The trail is ADA and stroller compatible. Trees line both sides of the trail. The trail begins - or ends - at Cottonwood Ave. depending on where you start/end. Likewise, the trail begins or ends at McLeod Road.
If you choose to continue your journey and head to Shuksan Meadows Neighborhood Park, follow Cottonwood Ave to Maplewood Ave. This is the route many students follow to/from Shuksan Middle School. The name Shuksan is derived from the Lummi word said to mean "high peak". The highest point on the mountain is a three-sided peak known as Summit Pyramid.
Once you get to Shuksan Meadows Park, you will find picnic tables, climbing equipment and various other playground equipment. The park is fenced and locked at night. Hours are 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily. There is a small parking lot with 2 EV charging stations and 1 ADA parking spot, water fountain and bike rack.
Shuksan Middle School is directly behind the park. There are no caches here. This is basically a play park for children. Great place to bring the little ones after a day of caching.
When searching for this cache, visualize a multi-trunked tree with lots of various sized branches overhead. There is lovely depression (hidey hole) in the tree's crotch. The cache is NOT there 😁. Once you find that interesting tree, you wil need to search a little bit. Unless some curious "critter" moves it, it resides behind the tree at ground level.
