Geocache Description:

Welcome to Huharua Park which is located at the end of Plummer’s Point Road, bounded by the Tauranga Harbour to the north.

The land is part of the original property settled by Ada and Thomas Plummer in 1907, and was retained by the family for almost 100 years. The land was farmed until 1976 when Tony Thorne, the grandson of Thomas Plummer, established a kiwifruit, citrus and avocado orchard.

Western Bay of Plenty District and Tauranga City councils jointly purchased the land from the Thorne family in 2003 for conversion to a sub-regional park. The 8.7-hectare reserve now serves as a passive public park for walking, picnicking and enjoying the thriving bird life and harbourside environment.

There are now a number of caches scattered through this park, which will hopefully encourage more geocachers off the main highway.

You are looking for a 1 litre sistema, and during winter we would suggest that you wear your gumboots. Also, could you please ensure that the log book's zip-lock plastic bag is sealed shut, as the area can be prone to flooding, thanks. First to find honours went to ... TRYFYN
