Geocache Description:

This cemetery is located north of Townsend, in Broadwater County, Montana. Many graves are marked with funeral markers which have been obliterated by weather and time. Some bodies have been removed to other cemeteries.  A search of death records at the Broadwater County Clerk and Recorder’s Office, Townsend, Montana, revealed several names of those buried “Townsend.” An assumption was made, because of the date of deaths, that they were buried in the Centerville Cemetery.

“Centreville was located on the east side of the Missouri River just across from the mouth of Indian Creek. It had a post office 1872-74 with John Robinson as postmaster, and again December 1874-83. The town faded when the railroad came in and built a station at Townsend.” --- Roberta Carkeek Cheney, Names on the Face of Montana, The Story of Montana's Place Names, Mountain Press Publishing Company, Missoula, 1983.

This cache has been placed near the entry gate of the Centerville Cemetery. The gate is chained but not locked. Please make sure the gate is properly chained after you visit the site.

Please sign the log when you locate the cache. There is no pencil included ... bring your own. Anyone logging a find on-line who does not sign the physical log ... phooey on you! I will delete your "Found It."
