Qualche info sul parco Novi Ark:
Con l’apertura del parcheggio interrato Novi Park, nell’estate del 2012, vennero alla luce numerosi reperti di età romana, sepolti sotto circa cinque metri di terreno alluvionale, su una superficie di almeno 23.000 metri quadrati. Riportati in superficie e qui ricostruiti con minuzia certosina, costituiscono oggi un bel museo all’aperto perfettamente in grado di rendere conto di come doveva essere la vita nella Mutina romana.
La zona verde fu già, al tempo dei Duchi, Piazza d’Armi per le parate militari e confine della cittadella fortificata, nonché ippodromo e luogo di grandi eventi culturali (come il noto Pavarotti and friends).
Al centro si snoda una lunga strada romana in ciottoli di epoca augustea, in cui si notano benissimo i solchi delle ruote dei carri che la percorrevano: diretta verso Mantova, la strada si ricongiungeva alla via Emilia poco oltre. Ai lati della strada sono visibili numerose tombe che, come da tradizione romana, si ergevano accanto alle arterie principali: sulle lapidi stanno incisi i nomi di alcuni modenesi di duemila anni fa, le cui storie sono facilmente comprensibili grazie ai cartelli esplicativi.
A destra della strada, lasciando alle spalle il Palazzo del Foro Boario, si possono ammirare i resti di alcuni edifici rurali: una domus con annesso cortile, un pozzo in marmo, una vasca probabilmente usata per il lavaggio delle pecore prima della tosatura e un’inconsueta grande vasca circolare in cui venivano allevate le carpe. Altri reperti sono stati consegnati al Museo Lapidario Romano del vicino Palazzo dei Musei.

With the opening of the Novi Park underground car park in the summer of 2012, numerous finds from the Roman era came to light, buried under approximately five meters of alluvial soil, on a surface area of at least 23,000 square metres. Brought back to the surface and rebuilt here with painstaking detail, they now constitute a beautiful open-air museum perfectly capable of explaining what life must have been like in the Roman Mutina.
The green area was already, at the time of the Dukes, Piazza d'Armi for military parades and the border of the fortified citadel, as well as a hippodrome and place of major cultural events (such as the well-known Pavarotti and friends).
In the center there is a long Roman cobblestone road from the Augustan era, in which the ruts of the wheels of the chariots that traveled along it are clearly visible: heading towards Mantua, the road rejoined the Via Emilia a little further on. Numerous tombs are visible on the sides of the road which, as per Roman tradition, stood next to the main arteries: the names of some people from Modena from two thousand years ago are engraved on the tombstones, whose stories are easily understandable thanks to the explanatory signs.
To the right of the road, leaving the Palazzo del Foro Boario behind, you can admire the remains of some rural buildings: a domus with an adjoining courtyard, a marble well, a tub probably used for washing sheep before shearing and a unusual large circular tank in which carp were bred. Other finds were delivered to the Roman Lapidary Museum of the nearby Palazzo dei Musei.
