CAERULEUM / BLUE
Blue is trust, loyalty, intelligence, strength, and dependability. It is also coolness, peace, serenity, spiritual and ethereal. Contradictory, blue is cold, wet, and slow, symbols of sadness and depression. It conveys impersonality and unfriendliness.
Blue is nature’s colour for water and sky, but rarely found in fruits and vegetables. Most blue landscapes inspire positive feelings such as tranquillity and calmness.
Blue, or cyan, is a primary colour in all colour theories, but most blues contain a slight mixture of other colours; azure contains some green whilst ultramarine contains some violet. It has a wavelength of 450-495 nanometres.
Blue pigments were originally made from minerals such as lapis lazuli, cobalt and azurite, and blue dyes were made from plants. Today most blue pigments and dyes are made by a chemical process.
