Croglin is a quiet fellside village with more history than you can see at first sight.
Archaeological finds indicate that humans may have lived here since the bronze age while documentary evidence indicates there was a church here in the 12th century and the churchyard itself has gravestones dating back to the 13th century. A few buildings in the village date to 14th /15th centuries
Between 18th and early 20th centuries, Croglin was busy with coal mining and lime burning being carried out in the fells above the village. The village had two pubs, a butcher’s shop, a smithy, a shoemaker, a grocer’s, and a post office and an excellent school.
