Birtvisi Nature Monument, situated in just 1 hour drive from Tbilisi, is a captivating natural area known for its stunning landscapes, rugged limestone cliffs, and lush forests. This picturesque destination is a haven for hikers and nature enthusiasts, offering a network of scenic trails. It also boasts historical significance, with the ancient Birtvisi Fortress dating back to the XI century.
There are a few canyons that cross in the central plateau which resembles "The Lost World" described by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. There are tall green trees, huge rocks, remnants of the ancient fortifications. If you are lucky, you may even find a few dinosaurs!
Cache coordinates will lead you to a spot at the plateau. Look around and search for a big green digit painted on a rock. Let X be the digit. The cache is hidden at 41.607(X*20+10), 44.540(X*30+2).
There are a few trails to the Lost World. I recommend hiking from Tbisi, as it is the shortest and most scenic one, passing through the narrow fissure between two rocks, called Devi's Footprint.
The path to the cache from the plateau is quite challenging. You need good boots and trekking poles, especially when heading back. Going there in wet weather is dangerous!
There is a creek with lots of water in spring and early summer. It gets dry in July and later, so bring water with you.
