Subtitle: ScouterDuck's Tribute to Grizzly Bear 1 and the Frog Princess
WARNING: Seasonal Cache! This cache should be available in winter, though you may have a longer walk from parking as Riverbend is typically closed in winter, but you can hike here from McNamara Landing. However, this cache is not available in spring. This area is prone to flooding and swift currents during the melt-off and April showers. The trails along the river are closed and gated off during this time. While the cache is tied up in a tree off the ground and hopefully above the high-water line, if you wade to it you are placing yourself in danger and probably violating park rules. If you come here from about mid March through late May, and find the gates closed or water over the trails, please just come back another time. There are many other caches in the park on high ground away from the river.
This container was originally a cache named The Tree, GCWY42, placed by Grizzly Bear 1 in Hudson Corners Cemetery in Allegan, near where his parents (my grandparents) and a sibling (my aunt) lie. I removed it after his passing, but someone else has since added another nearby. As my Mom and Dad rest in a National Cemetery, I cannot honor them in kind, but this spot is one they would have enjoyed, being lovers of the woods and the water. Dad had been the Grizzly Bear for reasons unknown from before I was born, and adopted it as his Geocaching handle. Mom passed before Geocaching became a thing, but I suspect her handle would have been The Frog Princess or something similar. This hide is in their honor.
Enough being sentimental. Come find a decon in a tree near a scenic and peaceful spot along the Grand River. Please do not untie it, just shift it around, then rehide as found. Thank you, and enjoy the spot.
Parking can be found at Burchfeild Park, Riverbend Natural Area, or McNamara Landing, then follow trails along the river. Closest parking is Riverbend.
