Time to place a new cache! First step is the idea. Second step is a location. Third step...
We began our search for a location, and in one particular area we noticed something curious in the distance. We cautiously continued walking but the closer we got the odder it became. Once at the site we were shocked to find remains; old and beaten bones, evidence of animal predation and a tattered book. I am somewhat of an expert in animal anatomy, and upon further investigation the bones were noted to be human. There was no gravemarker and it appeared to us that this site had been undisturbed for a very long time. Searching for information we picked up the book and noticed it was coming apart. We didn't want to lose any pages and there was clearly nothing we could do, so we took the book (out of curiosity) and went home.
That night we started pouring through the book, and we realized it was a type of diary. This book belonged to a man named Jakob, and it appeared to be a collection of stories from his life. If we can believe these entries he was quite the adventurer! Some pages were difficult to make out due to weathering over the years, fading ink and damage to the paper BUT there were many pages that could still be clearly read. We flipped to the last entry which somehow felt different from previous ones in the book. This entry talked about a search for gold at a nearby mine, and it stated that Jakob fell while trying to retrieve the gold on his own. Barely injured but unprepared for the task (he was unable to secure the gold store), he left with a plan to return for the small fortune. Jakob returned that same night with a lantern, some tools and a packboard. He worked in darkness and secrecy, but something went wrong. At this point the entry became disconnected and it almost appeared that the writing had changed. We continued reading the written words, but all it said was that Jakob escaped with a small amount of gold and fled on foot down a nearby corduroy road. There wasn't anything of substance further to this in the entry, as it appeared to just end. Disturbed by the story we returned the following day. Everything appeared to be as we had found it (minus the book), and we searched for the gold for hours without success.
We aren't sure what actually happened to Jakob, but we felt inspired to share his stories with adventurers and treasure hunters alike. Starting with the end of his story, we created this cache to honour Jakob. Will you be brave enough to find and sign the L.O.G.
