This Community Centre was built around 1975 by the Auckland Council as a facility for the Waiatarua community to gather for social reasons and to host events and activities.
It consisted of a Hall on the Top Level and a Library below .
When I was first married in 1972 we lived in Forest Hill Road and had 4 children ....lived there for about 15 years ....Back in those days we had Playcentre in the Hall - it was a good way to meet other Mums and kids .... Now there is a Purpose Built one down the drive !
There was also a Theatre Group that put on the occasional Dramas.
I also remember being on The Residents and Ratepayers Committee.
Anyway, as I was passing after getting a cache at Piha I decided to put out another Cache here for old times sake
( I had one near here years ago..)..
Back to this new cache ....Look for the Rose Hellaby Memorial Steps.Plaque...You will see Two Trees .next to it.
The cache is nested in a fork about chest high.
Look from the car park side of tree not road side .
Please recover with bits of bark and leaves ...Plenty lying around !
Usually plenty of parking unless there is a function on ....be discreet .. there might be cameras around !
