This  Off-Set Multi with a Field Puzzle that will take you to two places of interest in Hawick.

At the first waypoint you should be stood outside an impressive building, with strong links to the Cashmere and Tweed trade, please enter the building the solve the next stage.

Hint - 2nd Floor.... A place to compare Tweed.... Behind! Solve the Puzzle. the find the coordinates... If you need any help, please ask the staff they are fully aware of the cache.

History of The Borders Textile Industry

1650's - The Weavers of Hawick form themselves into a Craft Guild.

1750's - Linen and Carpets start to be produced in Hawick

1771 - Bailie John Hardie "the father of Hawicks Hosiery Industry" installs the first 4 knitting frames in Hawick.

1800's - Improvements in Animal Husbandry leads to the breeding of the thick-fleeced Cheviot Sheep and increases the availabilty of good quality wool.

1815 - Spinners and Weavers move from Individual homes and set up for the first time in Mill Buildings.

1826 - The Name of "Tweed" coined for first time after a London merchant misinterpreted the handwritten word "Tweel" from a Hawick manufactuer.

1830's - John Laing and Sons are established in Hawick and cashmere starts to be used for the first time. 

1838- The First powered loom arrives in Hawick. Hawick is now at the cutting edge of Technology.

1845 - Over Half of all Scotlands 2605 knitting frames are located in Hawick.

1849- The arrival of the railway to Hawick has a huge impact on the Industry.

1920's - THe expansion of Producing purely "underwear" to outerwear products such as the "Pullover" and "Cardigan"

1933 - Knitwear engineers Scott and Turnbull use existing skills tro set up the first engineering company in the town.

1934- Otto Weisz leads the Knitwear Industry into the World of Haute Couture and takes Pringle into the world of High Street Fashion with his highly successful Twin Set.

1960's - Bernat Klein rises to international fame when Gabrielle Chanel begins to use his Mohair Tweeds. 

1969- Closure of the Railway 

1970's - Johnston of Elgin expands to produce knitwear in Hawick.

1988- Fashion '88 a Borders wide event involving designers such as Jasper Conran and Vivienne Westwood, working with local manufacturers to produce desgner fashions.

2009 - Borders Textile Towerhouse opens - a Museum to Celebrate the past, Present and future of Borders Textiles.

2018 - The Borders Distillery opens its doors in Hawick - the first Distillery in the Region since 1837.

2019 - Textile centre of Excellence opens in Hawick
