Qualche info sulla Ghirlandina:
Edificata come torre campanaria del Duomo, la torre ha tuttavia rivestito fin dalle sue origini un’importante funzione civica: il suono delle sue campane scandiva i tempi della vita della città, segnalava l’apertura delle porte della cinta muraria e chiamava a raccolta la popolazione in situazioni di allarme e pericolo. Le sue possenti mura custodivano la cosiddetta "Sacrestia" del Comune, dove erano conservati i forzieri, gli atti pubblici e oggetti di alto valore simbolico come la celebre trecentesca "Secchia rapita (ora qui esposta in copia). Questo vile e supremo oggetto di contesa tra modenesi e bolognesi nell’infuriare della storica battaglia di Zappolino (1325), è stato reso celebre dall’omonimo poema eroicomico di Alessandro Tassoni.

Primo step: Sala della secchia rapita
Qua è custodita una copia del famoso secchio di legno e ferro che secondo la tradizione i modenesi trafugarono da un pozzo situato in via San Felice, nel pieno centro di Bologna, durante la battaglia di Zappolino.

Built as the bell tower of the Cathedral, the tower has nevertheless had an important civic function since its origins: the sound of its bells marked the times of the city's life, signaled the opening of the gates of the city walls and called the population together in situations of alarm and danger. Its mighty walls guarded the so-called "Sacrestia" of the Municipality, where the coffers, public documents and objects of high symbolic value such as the famous fourteenth-century "Secchia rapita" (now exhibited here in copy) were kept. This vile and supreme object of contention between Modena and Bologna during the historic battle of Zappolino (1325), was made famous by the heroic-comic poem of the same name by Alessandro Tassoni.
