Geocache Description:

What is a dead end?

Dead End Sign

A road closed at one end, leading nowhere?

A situation or subject that allows for no progress or development?

Another name for a cul-de-sac?

Title of a movie?

Title of a book?

A Rock Band?

All the above, and more, are examples of dead ends.

However, geocachers often see a dead end as . . .

 surprise ! OPPPORTUNITY ! smiley

Dead End caches from 3 on have a Bonus Code on the log container. Be sure to write it in a safe place for later use when the Dead End Bonus cache becomes available (Ex. DE3 = ABC). Even if you are not sure you will do the Bonus cache, storing as you go will prevent revisiting caches for unsaved codes later. Do not place it in your electronic log in any form.

Links to all 10 Dead End caches plus the Bonus: DE3, DE4 Redoux, DE5, DE6, DE7, DE8, DE9, DE10, DE11, DE12, DE Bonus

The original DE4 met it's demise with the fall of a telephone company sign which looks like it may not be replaced or repaired any time soon so this simpler version of DE4 will take its place. Anyone who found the original DE4 may rest easy as the Bonus Code remains unchanged. Of course it is a new cache available as a new find to add to your count. You are welcome to travel all the way to the dead end but it is not necessary unless you enjoy dusty gravel roads and seek to satisfy your curiousity as to what lies at the end of E 1st St S. Parking is nearby though not designated as such - choose a spot that is out of the lane of travel and elect to walk a few feet further to ensure safety.

Of curious interest is a strangly fluctuating satellite signal in an area without visible objects that commonly interfere with signal reception. If you have difficulty with your signal, rely on your geo-sense and don't give up. The cache is logical for the area. Posted coordinates are from the third attempt, representing 66 measurements with an average accuracy of 10.55 feet. It would be interesting to know how accurate the posted coordinates are for you and will tell me if the Difficulty rating needs to be adjusted.
