Winter Game Fun !!

1. Game runs from Dec15th, 2023 until Feb 15th , 2024.

2. Register in this thread to let us know that you are playing no later than December 15th, 2023. If you wish to join after that date please contact Pogie24 for permission :)

3.Fulfill any 10 requirements listed below after the start of the game. Once a requirement is logged it cannot be changed.

4, Caches logged for this game have to be logged on geocaching.com after the start of the game and before the end of the game.

5. Tasks must be claimed within 7 days of logging a find and within 7 days after  the end of the game. Your post must clearly state which task is being claimed and how the task meets the requirements. Post your claims on this cache page. example : Task #1- GCxxxxx 5pts

6.Claims must be made on caches published before the start of the game in Saskatchewan unless otherwise stated in the Task.  Caches used for tasks which require cache hides must be published before the end of the game unless the requirement states otherwise.

7.Each requirement must be claimed against a cache previously unfound by you.

8.Each requirement must be claimed against a different cache unless the task states otherwise.

9.Once you claim a task-you may not substitute another cache or it will be disqualified.

10.Points are awarded on the basis of  Requirement Score plus (Difficulty (times) * Terrain )  or a fixed point score. Each task will clearly state the scoring method. You must state in your thread which score you are claiming and the points you are taking for the requirement.

11.Prizes will be awarded to the cacher who has completed 10 tasks requirements with the high score, the low score and the average score.

12. In the event of a tie -the cacher who finished first will be the winner.

13. Pogie24  will administer the game and her decisions are final. She reserves the right to provide clarifications to the rules at any point during the game.

14. At least one task has to be completed in each of the months of December, January and February.

15. Adventure Labs are only be allowed for Task #29.

These are the tasks that you can chose from---

1. Kid Cache = 1 point + (Difficulty*Terrain) Log any physical cache that displays a "Kid  Friendly" attribute.

2. Wheelchair Accessible Cache =1 point + (Difficulty*Terrain) Log any cache type that displays the wheelchair attribute on the cache page.

3. In the Night = 2 points + (Difficulty*Terrain) Log any physical cache designed for you to find at night or log a physical cache that you found between midnight and 5am local time. Post a picture of yourself finding the cache at night .

4. Series Cache =1 point +(Difficulty*Terrain) Log any cache of any type that is part of a series to claim this requirement .The Series must be clearly stated in the title or cache description. The series needs to be placed by a single cacher.

5. Driveby Cache = 1 point + (Difficulty*Terrain) Log any cache of any type where you parked your registered vehicle less than 10 meters away from the cache. 4WD or Motorcycle parking is acceptable. Any logs that indicate a breach of the law occured or reasonably infer that a breach of the law occured will not be honoured.

6. Cache where Difficult plus Terrain add up to 7     - 2 points +(Difficulty*Terrain) Log any cache of any type where the sum of the terrain and difficulty add up to 7.  For example a difficulty of 3.5 and a terrain of 4 does not qualify because it adds up to more than 7...A Difficulty of 2 and a Terrain of 5 would qualify.

7. 171 or 2635 Cache = 2 points + (Difficulty*Terrain) Log any physical cache where the number 171 or 2635 appear in that order in the co-ordinates of the published cache. The numbers do not have to be consecutive  but have to appear in order -example--N52 11.527 W106 38.887 would qualify as 171 appears in order even though 171 are not consecutive.

8. Sunset or Sunrise Cache =2 points +(Difficulty*Terrain) Log any physical cache that you find at Sunset or Sunrise.  Please post a picture with your Task claim.

9. Make a Friend = 2 points +(Difficulty*Terrain) Log any physical cache with a fellow geocacher that you have never cached with before . The cacher must be registerd on geocaching.com before the start of the game and both your logs must state who you cached with and it must be on the same logged cache. The other cacher does not have to be playing the Winter Caching Game.

10.Take a Muggle =2 points +(Difficulty*Terrain) Log any physical cache with a person  NOT  registered on geocaching.com before the start of the game. Your log must contain a picture of you and your muggle friend .

11. Unloved Cache = 3 points +(Difficulty*Terrain) Log any physical cache that has not been found in the previous 90 days . 

12. Do you DNF ? = 3 points +(Difficulty*Terrain) Log a find on a physical cache that was a cache that you previously logged a DNF on before the start of the game. In your log provide the date of your previous dnf . 

13. Maintain a Cache = 3 points -Log any cache type that you undertook maintenance on to claim this requirement.  Example-- replacing a log, or container, cleaning out a cache to restore to former glory. Please state in your log what you did to maintain a cache and on which cache.

14.Fancy Dress =5 points Log any physical cache and have a photo taken of you at the cache where you are dressed in attire which directly relates to the cache name . Example-- a cache name with Pirate in it- wear an eye patch ,  a Rider cache-wear a Roughrider shirt etc etc. Be creative and take a picture of you at the cache and try to make the theme fit the cache name-- A prize may be given out for creativity .

15. Dozen Finds in a Day =3 or 6 points (your choice) Log 12 finds on any given calander day. You may find more caches on that day. List them in your log requirement for that day.

16. Earthcache =25 points   Create an Earthcache and have it published before the end of the games.

17.Host an Event = 0 or 12 points (your choice) Host an event on geocaching.com. Your event must be published before the end of the game although it can be held after the games end on Feb 15th, 2024

18. Hide a big one =0 or 12 points (your choice)   Hide a physical cache that is a large container . Your cache must be published before the end of the game on geocaching.com.

19. Find a cache that DOES NOT start with the letter B --   1 point plus Difficulty *Terrain 

20. Hide Traditional winter Friendly Caches = 0 or 6 points (your choice) Hide 3  traditional caches that are easily found in the snow and must have the Winter Friendly attribute on the cache page. They must be published on geocaching.com before the end of the game on Feb 15th , 2024.

21.Lets Go Streaking ! Earn a point for each consecutive day that you went caching during the game for a maximum of 12 days . For example -if you went for three days you get 3 points.  You may  find more than a single cache each day. Adventure Labs and Adventure Lab stages do not count for the streak..You can count any string of 1 or more days. They can be claimed as part of another requirement if necessary. 

22. Make some Tracks =3 or 6 points  (Your choice)  Find a clean patch of nice snow --go write a message , make a snow angel, write your caching name , draw a picture in the snow-- be creative . Take a picture and post it on your thread for the day.

23. Attend an Event = 5 points ---attend any geocaching event during the course of the games other than the Winter Games themselves

24. Out of the Province Cache = 5 points  -  Log any physical cache that is in another Canadian Province . 

25. Out of Canada Cache = 5 points -Log any physical cache that is not in Canada -this is a task for all you cachers who like to vacation south for part of  the winter.

26. Buddy Cache =  3 points   - Cache with another cacher who is registered on geocaching.com ......You both must find the same cache and post who you were caching with.

27. Spelling Bee = 25 points  This can take the entire games to complete ---Spell out the word  CHRISTMAS ... find a cache using the first letter of the cache name to spell out  CHRISTMAS  --example  --a cache name Flower  could be used for F , etc etc.. Caches starting with  The, numbers or symbols do not qualify...

28. Attribute cache = 3 points -Log any physical cache that has 8 or more attributes on the cache page .

29. Adventure Lab Cache -- 5 points---Complete a whole adventure Lab (even ones that has been published after the start of the games) --list which one you completed in your log. All stages of the Adventure Lab must be completed to claim this task.

30. Rural Cache Hide ----   5 points --Hide a cache in a rural setting---- it could be in a small town, off a grid road,  any size of container but not hid in a city.....

31. Group Caching --- 10 points --- cache in a group of 5 or more cachers to find a cache -all cachers must be registered on geocaching.com..everyone must mention in their log that it was a group effort. Events do not count for this task.

32. Mystery/Challenge Caching -- 6 points --- Find and log  3 Mystery or Challenge Caches that you have solved or qualify for...please state which caches you found in your note.

DECEMBER BONUS= 5 points 

  Donate December--   For the bonus make a donation to the food bank, a charity, a family in need etc etc... please state in your log what you donated and to where. 

JANUARY BONUS = 5 points 

Random act of Kindness Month--  to earn the bonus points you must state what you have done as a random act of kindness--example--pay for someone elses coffee in a Tim Hortons line up,  shovel your neighours walk, bake cookies for a friend etc etc---please state in your log what you have done as a random act of kindness

I will try to keep the scores updated regularly --please check your scores to make sure I have logged your  right tasks and scores...   The wind up, awards will be held on Saturday February 24th at Market Mall  Smittys from 2:00pm-3:30pm in the private room on the main level .
