The Great Santini is a 1979 American drama film written and directed by Lewis John Carlino. It is based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Pat Conroy. The film stars Robert DuvallBlythe Danner, and Michael O'Keefe.

A warrior without a war, LtCol Wilbur "Bull" Meechum, a pilot also known as "the Great Santini" to his fellow Marines, moves his family to the military base town of Beaufort, South Carolina, in peacetime 1962. His wife Lillian is loyal and docile, tolerant of Meechum's temper and drinking. Their teenaged children, Ben and Mary Anne, are accustomed to his stern discipline and behave accordingly, while adapting to their new town and school.

As a retired Marine, I believe this was required viewing during initial training.  It may be an old movie, but it is great Marine Corps movie!  Too bad I did not take notes, becasue like most Marines, my family sometimes did not come first.  I hope I was nowehere close to being like LtCol "Bull" Meechum.

The best scene is when "Bull" is in Spain with his Marines and they are getting rowdy drunk at a restaurant (go figure).  A Navy Captain asks him to keep the noise down and get his Marines out of there.  "Bull" proceeds to set up the Navy Captain for some shenanigans.  He asks if they can have one more drink.  The Navy Captain agrees.  "Bull" walks out in the middle of the restuarant and pretends to be drunk and "vomit" on the floor.  The "vomit" is a can of soup hidden in his jacket and then some of his Marines come running up to it with spoons and start eating it.  Needless to say, all the diners were horrified, to include the Navy Captain's wife!  Yep, a typical Marine thing to do.  LMAO!

In true Marine Corps fashion, you will have to do some work to solve for this cache.  Nothing too hard.  Just a little land navigation.  I don't want folks walking all over the VFW's property, and if you were in the Navy, you may not know how to do land navigation (just joking), so I kept it simple.  The coords take you to a sign that states "Home of VFW Post 1503".  Now listen up!  Attention!  About face!  Forward march!  March across the parking lot towards the blackish sign near the entrance of the parking lot.  Stop at the light post right by the sign.  From that light post, shoot an azimuth of 221.4 degrees and follow it for 59.2 meters.  Once there, the cache is hidden in plain sight (HIPS).

Make sure you record the code word.

As "Bull" Meechum would say, good luck, sports fans!
